History
INSTITUTE OF METAL PHYSICS OF NASU.

The first research in physics of metals in Ukraine (1928) were conducted in Kharkiv (at that time, Ukrainian) Physical-and-Technical Institute of the Ukr.SSR A.S., then (1931) in its Dnipropetrovsk branch, on the base of which in 1932 the Dnipropetrovsk Physicotechnical Institute (DPTI) was founded.

At the end of 1944, a group of scientists of DPTI was transferred to Kyyiv, where the Department of Metal Physics at the Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy of the Ukr.SSR A.S. was organized. The Department was headed by Academician G.V. Kurdyumov.

In November 15, 1945, on the base of the Department of Metal Physics at the Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy of the USSR A.S., the Laboratory of Metal Physics of the Ukr.SSR A.S. was founded, which became a direct successor of the DPTI in the field of physics of metals. Its staff included the leading scientists of the Laboratory of Phase Transformations in Metals and Alloys, the Laboratory of Crystallization ofMetals and Alloys of the pre-war DPTI, the Diffusion Department of the Institute of Physics of the Ukr.SSR A.S., and later (in 1953) the Physical Metallurgy Department and the X-Ray Spectral Analysis Laboratory of the Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy of the Ukr.SSR A.S.
