The article discusses the modern methods of fabrication of iron powders, carries out their classification, analyses the analytical data about powders made from various types of raw materials. The kinetic regularities of the reduction of iron oxides are analysed from the point of view of the adsorption–autocatalytic theory. The structure and mechanical properties of iron powders are considered. The morphology, structure, phase and elemental compositions of the mill scale of the Uzbek Metallurgical Plant are analysed. Technology for the recovery of scale is developed, including the following stages: drying at 250–340°C, grinding in a ball mill for 2 hours, magnetic separation, sieving through a 40-mesh sieve, mixing the charge, recovery for 2 hours in H2 at the temperatures: 650–700°Ñ (I zone), 950–1000°Ñ (II zone).
