Possibilities of selenophene derivatives as new sources of selenium in the synthesis of the AIIBVI-type semiconductor particles, in particular, of cadmium selenide, are investigated. The use of these compounds in the synthesis of nanoparticles by high-temperature pyrolysis method enables fabrication of the luminescent CdSe nanoparticles of different shapes (tetrapods, dots) depending on the stabilizers, precursors, and temperature. The ÑdSe and ÑdSe/CdS quantum dots of ‘core–shell’ or ‘gradient alloy’ structures have the quantum yield of luminescence of up to 20%.
