The optical properties of frozen melts of the EuSe–NaCl–KCl and EuIn2Se4–NaCl–KCl systems are observed. Nanostructures in frozen melts exhibit intense luminescence in the blue area of spectrum (400–450 nm) due to the 5d–4f-transitions in Eu(II) ions. Weakly expressed luminescence caused by electronic 4f–4f-transitions in ions Eu(III) indicates on the oxidation processes during heat treatment in air. The presence of oxidation products has an impact on the optical properties, in particular, diffuse reflectance spectra and infrared transmission spectra of frozen melts of EuSe and EuIn2Se4 in NaCl–KCl.

Key words: nanostructures, europium selenide, optical properties, luminescence, exchange reaction, complexation reaction.
