The results of investigation of the pressureless sintering, microstructure and properties of high-density Si3N4-based ma-terials fabricated from nanodispersed Si3N4–Al2O3–Y2O3 compo-site powders are reported. As shown, these self-reinforced ma-terials with low content of glass phase have a bending strength Rbm above 700 MPa and crack resistance K1с of 5.0 MPa?m1/2, and preliminary gas-thermal treatment of the initial powders in-creases strength owing to increasing the homogeneity of micro-structure and the quantity of anisometric Si3N4 grains in the material.
