The basic fundamental and technological aspects of structure formation and properties of submicrocrystalline (SMC) and nanostructured (NS) metallic materials by severe plastic deformation are considered. Issues of practical applications of technologies developed on the basis of purposeful use of diffusion-controlled processes for fabrication of submicro- and nanostructured materials of medical and technical purposes with improved service characteristics are discussed. Advantages of application of the microarc oxidation using electrolytes with the addition of nanohydroxyapatite (with crystal sizes less than 100 nm) to form biocoatings on the surface of medical implants are analysed.
