Within both the Mott approximation for ferromagnetic metals and the
modified Mayadas—Shatzkes model, the giant magnetoresistance effect in
magnetic polycrystalline multilayers with ultrathin spacers is investigated.
With the general and simple asymptotic formulas obtained, the
amplitude of effect caused by the asymmetry of both the spin-dependent
interface scattering of electrons and the spin-dependent transmission of
electrons between the adjacent magnetic layers is estimated. The conditions,
under which the effect changes the sign, are revealed, and the
grain-boundary scattering influence on the giant-magnetoresistance effect
amplitude is investigated too.
