DEPARTMENT FOR THE SOLID`S ACOUSTICS (53)

The Head of the department — Doctor in Physics and Mathematics, senior researcher

Bogdan M.  Mordyuk

THE MAIN RESEARCH DIRECTIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT

The main scientific direction of the department is the study of interactions of acoustic waves of different frequencies and amplitudes with structural defects and crystal lattice under the action of external energy sources. These studies are conducted in the framework of physics of strength and ductility and cover a wide range of tasks of solid`s acoustics. The internal friction stipulated by the interaction of dislocations with defects in the crystal structure is studied at low deformation amplitudes at sonic and ultrasonic frequencies. The precision measurements of ultrasound`s velocities, which depend on complex elastic and other physical constants of solids, are conducted as well.

The research objects under the influence / effect of high-amplitude vibrations and shock waves generated by them are dynamics of defects, restructuring and refinement of the subgrain and grain structure, as well as changing of phase composition causing the improvement of physical-and-mechanical properties of metals and alloys.

One of the directions of the research is studying of the acoustics emission processes induced in a solid by restructuring, phase transformations and destruction.
